Sweet Date Outfits

Valentine’s day is just five short days away already, how did that happen? I think I have been saying that for just about every holiday so far. It has been a whirlwind of a year. The BF and I are going quite fancy this V-day, and I’m pretty excited! We are seeing Chris Thile –> ( http://tinyurl.com/kqgs4xe  ) play at a symphony hall and then most likely going to find a swanky place to get some drinks. Luckily for us the concert is Tuesday the 18th, so we won’t be fighting with the a) Friday crowd or the b) crazed Valentine’s day crowd on the 14th.  Here are some sweet little Valentine’s day outfits floating around my Pinterest boards that I think would work no matter what your plans.

If you’re making it a girls night out, I think a chunky sweater (I mean, it is still February) and heeled booties is the way to go.

If you’re meeting up with a new potential Valentine at a casual bar a moto jacket, sweet dress, & tights to keep your legs from freezing over is a nice option. Flat booties are great for exploring around town and showing off your fave spots together.

If you’re meeting a new potential Valentine at a bit more upscale location I love this minimal look. It’s sleek and sexy, but could still work for many different venues if you’re in for a surprise date.

This look particularly inspired me for the event I’m going to with my boyfriend. I want to be a tad more dressed up than a typical concert outfit because it is going to be at a symphony hall.. but the leather jacket & messy topknot don’t make it look too fussy.

Hope you all have a chocolate filled day accompanied by cheesy love notes and mysterious flower bouquets from secret admirers. 😉

2014 Golden Globes

Kind of been neglecting this here blog… but what better way to jump into the new year than with some couture?

Award season is always fun because it’s a chance to see some of the most beautiful pieces created by some of the best designers basically in the flesh and “in action” on the red carpet by the celebs. There are always actresses who I know are going to absolutely hit it out of the park, but then there are the few that continually surprise. In both good and not so good ways.

Let’s review shall we…

The Chic…

Kate Beckinsale | Zuhair Murad

Beckinsale cannot go wrong. Have you ever seen her go wrong? Didn’t think so.

Leslie Mann | Dolce & Gabbana

I just think the lace-ish applique neckline and peplum skirt are the sweetest thing on Mann. She’s dainty and pretty and not overpowered by her attire.

Maria Menounos | Max Azria Atelier

This was probably the only look of the night that actually made me stop and say WOW – out loud. Seriously beautiful color and shape.  The makeup and hair doesn’t take away from anything, but actually accentuates the dress and her face. Gorge.

Jennifer Lawrence | Dior

What is with all this hatin’ on Jennifer’s Dior number? I thought this look was beautiful and seamless for the (winning) actress. Not to mention the bold makeup that totally worked in her favor.

Reese Witherspoon | Calvin Klein

Something about the simplicity of this full look made me love it on Reese. I don’t know if anyone else could have pulled it off, but on her it looks effortless. Kind of like.. “Oh hey, y’all! Just put on this old thing and threw on some mascara for the Globes!”  But it works. Definitely works.

The Interesting…

Emma Watson | Dior

I feel like this picture kind of speaks for itself. She’s all “Le sigh, yes I know. I’m wearing pants. At the Golden Globes. My bad.”

Lizzy Caplan | Emilo Pucci

Color-blocking can be very favorable to the body. The whole ‘trim four inches off my waist by sculpting an opposing shade to the sides of my dress’ thing can work wonders. However, in this case it just makes her look a tiny sliver of a person with a robots giant artificially attached arms.. no?

Zooey Deschanel | Oscar de la Renta

I love Zooey and all her quirky, sweet, and sassy ways! Buuut.. I’ve got to be honest and say there is a whooole lot going on here. I don’t hate the shoes, but would’ve preferred something open toe. The hair is another topic. Stick a paper flower in your side bun and call it a day is a little Sophomore year bored in math class style of hair-do.

Mila Kunis | Gucci

Mila, why so angry? Is your ruffled neckline strangling you?! Ponytail a little too tight?! Loosen up lady!

That’s a wrap for now! Until the next carpet…

Holidaze

I am really not meaning to sound like a Grinch here, but this holiday season has been a little more frustrating than most. I did myself a favor by picking up some gifts here and there early on so I don’t have to scramble at the last minute, but I still have a few important pieces to get along the way. The major source of stress is from work, naturally, and not finding the time to actually go out and get said gifts or being able to enjoy all the special holiday activities… and when I do have time I somehow find myself on the couch with hot cocoa and Netflix… whoooops. With all that being said I am still hopeful I’ll get a few days squeezed into December to do all the sparkly, cozy, festive, fun-filled Holiday traditions!

Here is the way I styled the plaid jacket I found at Target I had mentioned in the previous post.

Don’t ask me why I hardly ever have shoes on in these posts. I do not have an answer for you, other than by the time I walk out the door I can assure you I have found a pair.

Currently Pinning

I love Pinterest. I always wished there was something like Pinterest that existed, and then finally one day it did and I was all – about dang time. I especially love it for it’s categorization…Not sure if that is a legit word, but you understand, no? Autumn is my favorite season and I get so giddy for it each year that having one place to put all my inspirations is the best way for me to quickly reference any styles, beauty trends, recipes, and activities that make Autumn for what it is. I created an Autumn Inspiration board not too long ago and I get excited looking at it every time I log on! Is that nerdy? Nerdy for fashion, that is. Here are a few of my favorite looks I’ve found to compliment my board perfectly.

iPhone Photo Roundup

I have been feeling so blasé about my wardrobe lately, which has caused me to do more shopping than usual but I’m totally okay with it considering the awesome sales I’ve been scoring. I went to a boutique opening hosted by the blogger Happily Grey (http://happilygrey.com/) on Thursday and then just made a night of shopping on the town with my sister. I scored two shirts from Express for $20! I mean.. really. Later on this week I went to a trendy store, Altar’d State, where their sale was Buy One Get One FREE. Yes, free. So I walked out with four shirts for right about $20. Can you beat that?! I think not.

Ahh, that watch! The band is the most gorgeous black quilted leather and I must have it soon. Perhaps an early Christmas gift.. to myself?

Five for Five

Round two of Five for Five today! Sadly, these are the products that were a big old miss by me. Just to clarify, these products are not the worst of the worst. In fact, some people probably rave about them. They just are not my favorite… for a few different reasons. I have reasons, I promise. Let’s jump into it.

Suave Professionals Touchable Finish Hairspray

The one thing I did enjoy about this hairspray is that it didn’t make the list because it was a sticky, wet, mess. It was actually the opposite, it kind of does a whole lot of nothing. But for under $3.. I’ll take the loss.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation

Okay, probably gonna have a lot of – SAY WHATS – for this one because everyone seemed to rave about this foundation as some drugstore holy grail. It’s alright, but I honestly don’t understand the hype. It leaves a “your skin but better” finish in that it’s not cake-y or matte. It is verrrry dewy/oily though so unless you’re Gisele Bundchen and can just pull that off, you’re gonna need a good powder. I’ll continue to use it, but I probably won’t re-purchase.

Victoria’s Secret Pro Airbrush FX Face Primer

Not that I had super high expectations for this considering I got it in a kit during the semi-annual for under $8, but I was still annoyed with it. I used it in conjunction with the above mentioned foundation for at least a month, but I’ve since given up. I started using the foundation on its own recently and I realized this primer was actually the cause for the oily mid-day mess! It has a weird consistency and makes my face feel real gross after an hour of wear. No thanks.

Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer

This product is in the same category as the Suave hairspray. Not terrible, but I wouldn’t miss it if Simple suddenly decided to forget about making it altogether. I have yet to find a moisturizer I actually like and am continually on the search. Suggestions are welcome!

MAC Bronzing Powder in Golden

And the biggest let down of all. Again, it’s not that bad.. I just expected more. I had been using a Victoria’s Secret bronzer that I really liked but I ran out of, and I wanted to try something new. And it was MAC sooo.. ya know. It’s a decent bronzer, a pretty color if you’re as pale as I am, but it’s not my VS bronzer, man. I liked the dark, matte pay-off of the VS, whereas the MAC is more sheered out with a slight sheen.

So those are the products I’ve been loving/leaving lately. Have you tried anything amazing lately worth sharing? Anything worth leaving behind?
