Black is a color. Black is everything. It produces an instant level of chic. Like you’ve just stepped out of the Yves Saint Laurent (yes, I still count the “Yves”.. ain’t no YSL without the Y) flagship store in Paris, where you were just casually shopping with the Olsen twins.
I just got back from a week in New York where there is some seriously a-mah-zing shopping. This top was the one thing I walked out of Zara with, and it was on sale for less than $10. Really alerted the bank with that purchase. It has a higher neckline and wide arm holes. Super easy, super black, and super covered in cat hair at the moment.

Pleather Leggings | Forever 21
Suede Wedge Booties | Target
I’ve got a work vs. play look here again.. I feel like this might become routine. Both tops I’m wearing in this post were recent Target finds. My love for Target is never-failing. I ended up getting about four tops and a pair of yoga pants (because.. yoga pants, duh) all from the clearance rack! The new merchandise on the floor consisted of bikinis, cover ups, and shorts – and it’s been about eight degrees over here so that was not too appealing. They had a massive clearance section though so I spent waaay too much time scanning through it all, naturally.
(Sneaky work outfit selfies!) This top is actually really nice quality & I would have bought it full price at $29, but I was definitely happy to find it at $12.50. It’s sleeveless and is a pretty blush color with black color blocking on the sides.
Also got my hair did finally! I feel so much better not hauling around so much dead weight anymore.
Work Outfit | Top – Target (clearance), Cardigan – Kohls, Skirt – Forever 21, Sweater Tights – Target
Play Outfit | Sweater – Target (clearance), Jeans – American Eagle, Shoes – Minnetonka Moccasins
Sometimes (all the time) I wish I could wear whatever I felt like wearing to work. I’m not talking like ‘pajamas and ratty T-shirt’ wear anything, but just based on whatever my style mood was of the day. Style mood is a thing.. it is reflected upon the weather, current musical interests, etc. Both above outfits were worn the past week when it was particularly rainy and nasty out, and sometimes all you feel like wearing in that sort of weather is a cuddly sweater, perfectly fitted pants, and some wedge booties to protect your toes from puddles.
Work Outfit: Striped sweater and pants from New York & Company | Play Outfit: Sweater and wedge booties from Target, maroon pants from Forever 21
I honestly didn’t mean to dress in more than 50% of the same shade, but.. it is what it is. I guess something about cognac is real appealing to me. The color that is, not the drink.
I think I was channeling my girl Kendi of www.kendieveryday.com
Pinterest is a terrible, terrible place where all logical thinking and well-thought-out budgeting goes to die. Ever since the turn of “Fall” my Pinterest boards (link in top right) have been maxxed out with pins of moody nail polish & make-up colors, any and everything leather, and all the best autumn hues. So, naturally, I felt the need to do the same to my own closet. I did a very quick trip out this weekend and these are the goodies I found.
L’Oreal nail polish in the color ‘Haute Couture’ – I mean, even the name is perfect. It is the fourth from the left in the picture.
Cat eye glasses $5.80
Wine-colored skinnies $15.80
Cynthia Rowley leather accent pants $24.99
I wasn’t kidding. Leather. Everything.
RACHEL Rachel Roy crossbody bag $19.99
Ugh. Those iPhone pictures are basically insulting to this bag. This bag yelled my name across the store, told me to snatch it up and never leave my sight again in all it’s perfect-ness. I had one of those moments when you’re shopping and you just get so excited that your face/body starts doing all sorts of weird convulsions. I always wonder what loss prevention/security guards think of me if they catch me in a weird shopping-induced hyper-ventilating attack. I mean, it happens to the best of us.. right?
